Project Scope:
These Decatur homeowners love to cook and entertain. Unfortunately, the kitchen in this Craftsman style bungalow was narrow and disconnected from all other living spaces and even included their laundry – not exactly a chef’s kitchen. In their new space, these clients wanted:
- A larger, more open kitchen without adding footprint or losing any rooms
- Access to the rear deck
- A modern yet warm aesthetic
- A space where they can spend much of their time
It was a challenge to give the homeowners the space they needed to cook and entertain without adding any footprint. We looked at the home as a whole and did some careful square footage analysis. By removing the wall with the laundry, as well as a wall that was separating the kitchen and wasted hallway space, we successfully enlarged the kitchen and gained access to the back deck – without adding to the home’s footprint or losing any valuable space. Designing from a holistic point of view, we were able to give these homeowners the chef’s kitchen they always wanted and the modern design aesthetic they were looking for.
