Project Scope:
The scope of this project involved adding 1,217 square feet to an 87-year-old home in order to meet the needs of a growing family. The real challenge of this project was designing and building the exterior to look original to the existing home and complement the neighboring houses in this historic neighborhood.
To do this, we matched existing components, while also adding relevant, visually appealing elements. For example, we were able to give the addition a seamless look by matching the home’s existing brick but designed part of it to look like an enclosed sleeping porch, characteristic of older homes in the neighborhood. Hardi siding now contrasts with the brick. The new, freshly painted deck features a fully enclosed deck skirt with lattice panels. Because outdoor living is so important to this family, landscaping features like arbor detailing were also incorporated.
